Castle Acre is a pretty north-west Norfolk conservation village sited on the ancient Peddars Way popular with walkers and cyclists - a perfect base to explore the beautiful countryside with many tracks and trails to discover. The Norman Castle earthworks and the beautiful ruins of the magnificent Cluniac Priory are the best preserved in the country and within walking distance of North Barn. Spend a day exploring the ruins and the pretty village itself with tea shops, The Ostrich pub, serving great food and enjoy the views across the village green. There are superb historic houses to explore nearby including Sandringham House set in stunning grounds and gardens. Houghton Hall is also nearby and boasts a stunning five acre walled garden. Visit the neighbouring village of Great Massingham for a spot of lunch or dinner at the Dabbling Duck, popular with locals and visitors to Norfolk with locally sourced produce and seasonal dishes a speciality; alternatively pop in for a glass of your favourite beverage and enjoy the picturesque views across the village green. The delightful North Norfolk coast is a short drive from the village with family friendly beaches at Heacham and Hunstanton, a traditional seaside town with plenty to occupy families. A little further around the coast wildlife enthusiasts can enjoy a visit to the RSPB reserve at Titchwell and Snettisham.
