Cley-next-the-Sea cottages

The delightful village of Cley lies in a wonderful position on the beautiful North Norfolk coast. The main street winds its way past pretty flint cottages and houses, there is a very good delicatessen, smokehouse, pottery, gallery, bookshop, a restaurant and two pubs, which serve meals, in the village.

Anyone with a passing interest in Birds will tell you, Cley is the birding Mecca – All of the North Norfolk coast is good, of cause, but Cley-next-the-Sea has that bit extra, those essential ingredients: a wide range of natural habitats for breeding and feeding, a prime position on bird migration routes, sensible and long-established farming practices and, above all, plenty of goodwill towards feathered creatures.

You don’t’ have to be a knowledgeable twitcher to appreciate The Cley National Wildlife Trust Visitor Centre, there are plenty of books & birding paraphernalia to look through, you can borrow binoculars and where else can you enjoy a Danish pastry & cappuccino in a café whilst taking in the stunning views out to marshes – maybe spotting a spectacle flock of Brent geese, an avocet scything the mud or even a bittern if you’re lucky!

Cley-next-the-Sea has far more than just birds, – the windmill here, is one of Norfolk’s best known landmarks, dating back to 18th century and we would highly recommend having dinner in this unique restaurant, during your holiday.

Staying in this location you also have walking opportunities on your doorstep, notably the famous Blakeney Point starting as a narrow strip from Cley beach car park before widening out to where marram-grass-covered dunes rise on its landward side opposite Blakeney harbour.

With so many places of interest along the North Norfolk Coast to explore, it is easy to see why Cley-next-the-Sea makes a great holiday location to be based in.
